What they replace
The new boats take the place of older airboats in the Marine Division. Deputies use them to patrol the marshes, waterways and hard-to-reach parts of the parish.
Why an airboat
Patrol work in South Louisiana means shallow water and thick marsh. An airboat has nothing under the hull to foul, so it keeps moving where a prop boat stops.
